Hike To Balandra Basins Beach One of the finest beaches of the north eastern coast is Balandra which is situated between the villages of Salybia and Rampanalgas. It is a sheltered bay and a favourite weekend spot for sea bathers. After a short walk into the forest, hikers will discover the river and two delightful basins. The shallow waters of the first pool is ideal for non swimmers while lower downstream the second pool is a deep basin. The crystal clear waters appear brilliant green in the tree filtered sunlight, and there is an abundance of cray fish. The Balandra forest has a network of intricate trails that adventure seekers will find fascinating and there are several routes to access the basins. The trail can be muddy and consists of a few short inclines. The hike begins at Alcindor Trace and will take an hour to reach the destination. The trip is suitable for children and after the hike there is an option to go to the beach. Assembly for the hike is from 7am at the corner of O’Meara Road and Churchill Roosevelt Highway, Arima. Departure from Arima is 7:40am. Registration takes place on the morning of the hike. Participants are urged to bring along a change of clothes and shoes.
