Hiking, Biking, Paddling, Fishing and Outdoor Education To Highlight 10th Anniversary of “Lark in the Park” By Catskill Mountain Club 9/27/13 - 1:25 pm Hiking, Biking, Paddling, Fishing and Outdoor Education To Highlight 10th Anniversary of “Lark in the Park” Record 50 Events Scheduled Over 10 Days Arkville, NY – September 24, 2013 – More than 50 outdoor events, including hiking, biking, paddling, fishing, and outdoor education of interest to all ages, highlight this year’s “Lark in the Park,” a 10-day festival celebrating theCatskill Region, starting October 5 and running through October 14. Developed through a partnership among the Catskill Mountain Club, theCatskill Center and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, the tenth anniversary of the Lark has more events than ever, with over 50 activities designed to appeal to most skill and interest levels. New events include cycling on the Catskill Scenic Trail and a 40-mile tour of the central Catskills, new fire tower climbs, hikes on the new section of the Long Path and new Shavertown Trail, fishing on the Schoharie Reservoir, and educational hikes to Grand Canyon House, the Frick Pond Trail, and a mushroom walk in the Esopus Bend Preserve. A through-hike is once again planned, this time for four days on the Catskill’s Finger Lakes Trail. Members and non-members of the Catskill Mountain Club (CMC) are invited to attend its second Annual Dinner, October 13, at The Emerson Resort (see catskillslark.org/). A kayak and other items of interest to outdoor enthusiasts will be auctioned. Guest speakers are geologist Robert Titus and his wife, Johanna, authors of “The Hudson Valley in the Ice Age.” Reservations should be made at catskillmountainclub.org/.
