Hiking in Madrid Hello Hikers, Last Sunday another group - TopicsExpress

Hiking in Madrid Hello Hikers, Last Sunday another group of 15 just about dodged the rain on a stunning day in Miraflores. The sky was as variable as the lush landscape. We completed the hike as planned and in record time too! Thank you everybody for being so awesome, if you did that you can do any hike we do! On Sunday were going to do a mindblowing route in La Pedriza! Well be going back to Manzanares el Real and La Pedriza, to do a difficult loop hike up the front of La Pedriza and down to the Collado de la Dehesilla, finally returning at the end of a difficult day via the valley to Manzanares el Real. Weve only done this route twice before and both times the group loved it. It will be strenuous, both physically and mentally, because you will need to focus on what you are doing more than usual! **This hike is like two Gran Cañada routes, with bigger boulders that form part of the trail. It is much more physically tiring than regular walking! You will need to be able to trust your footwear. Boots are recommended but very sturdy sneakers with a good tread will be fine too. No flimsy footwear please! There arent any places where you can fall off the mountain, however, there are places where youll bang your knee if you are slipping around.** This weekend there are two hikes being offered. The details for the Miraflores Autumn Countryside Hike on Saturday have already been sent. If you havent received the email please let me know. The Saturday route is easier than the Sunday route. The details for Sundays hike are below. The route is a challenge, but if you are usually near the front of the group or dont feel challenged by our normal routes, than this hike is for you! Come on and get out there, lovers of difficult! Please email to reserve your spot for this one: thats many small steps for a hiking group, one giant leap for a mountain goat! **Please ask if you have doubts about your preparedness for this route!** TRANSPORTATION: Meet for BUS 724 in Plaza de Castilla at 10:40. Please bring small change or a 5€ bill for the drivers. Its fine if somebody wants to drive and meet us there. We will return to the city in the early evening. There are regular buses back to the city. FOOD: Lunch is included. Peanut butter and jam or turkey and cheese sandwich, chips, fruit, and dessert. *Please tell us if you are allergic to anything and we will accomodate you.* We also buy you a caña or coffee or coke at the end of the day. COST: 12€ plus cost of transportation. It is 4.20€ each way: less if you have an abono for outside the centre. INFORMATION ABOUT THE HIKE: This circular, difficult hike is about 17km long with about 750m of climbing. We will take about 6-7 hours to walk it. The trail has many boulders that must be climbed over, making it much more physically demanding than regular walking. We will start in Manzanares el Real and climb up the face of La Pedriza behind the town. Well continue going up for a long time before finally dropping down sharply to the Collado de la Dehesilla, our tranquil lunch spot. After lunch, we will descend to the valley and return back along the river-which will be roaring and golden in the light of the setting sun. WHAT TO BRING: *Water: please bring enough water or drink for yourself. *Rain jacket or poncho and something warm just in case you feel cold. *Sun screen and a hat. *Good equipment. *Boots are recommended for this route.* Sneakers must be very sturdy and have a good sole/tread, otherwise youll be in for a painful day. No flimsy footwear please! *Bring yourself ready to have a super fun time! Remember to reply to hikingmadrid@hikingmadrid to reserve your place or to ask any questions. Buenas rutas!
