Hill City Alumnis Edna Harrell Scholarship Awarded to KU Freshman. Hello friends, most of you should have received this announcement in your email, but I’m going to post it here too, for others who may be interested. Thank you. The Hill City, Kansas, High School Alumni Association (HCHSAA) has announced that this year’s winner of the annual Edna Dean Harrell Scholarship is Karel Schulz. Karel, a 2014 graduate of Hill City High, was awarded $4,000 to support her continuing education. She received the first $1,000 this fall and will receive an additional $1,000 each of the next three semesters. The scholarship was established in 2009, just weeks after the passing of Mrs. Harrell, making Karel the sixth winner so far. She compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.72 in high school and won multiple awards for musical talent, writing and newspaper/yearbook design. She is now in her first semester at the University of Kansas, majoring in journalism.
