Hill: Open hands, not clinched fists All Gods Children, is an earnest effort to remind Mississippians that LGBT people are Mississippians too. We are your neighbors, your co-workers, friends and family. And most of all, in a state which values faith, it is an affirmation that we are, indeed, all Gods children Serving many years as a United Methodist pastor in Mississippi, I got to witness and be part of this kind of change. One of my favorite examples of seeing someones heart and mind change was when a very conservative member of the church approached me one day and shared his previous misgivings regarding members of the LGBT community. But then he said, At least thats how I used to feel, but then I got to know Carla and Joce (a lesbian couple in our congregation), and now I dont feel that way. I was wrong. I cannot help but think back to when I was teenager coming to terms with being gay. Lonely and having no one to talk to, I wish that I could have turned on the television in our home and see someone like Mary Jane Kennedy, a deeply Christian woman and mother, tell about Gods love for everyone. I only wish that I could have seen someone like state Representative Alyce Clarke speak about how all people are valuable, especially LGBT people. --Rob Hill is the director of the Mississippi chapter of the Human Rights Campaign. clarionledger/story/opinion/columnists/2014/11/22/hill-column-baptist-press/19417917/
