Hillbilly Post Special Edition..The Funeral Flowers..Saturday.. Raining and dreary all day.. What to do what to do? Glenda was working and I usually mow on Saturday with the help of Zayward or Matthew but thats out of the question today. Decided to rearrange the living room and got Zayward to give me a hand. We move some furniture to one of the spare rooms and she sweeps up that stuff that hides under furniture! As she is sweeping up the dust bunnies and candy wrappers she finds the remains of some purple flowers. Zayward thought it was a strange place for her kids to have stashed flowers. I looked at them and a tear came to my eye. Her kids didnt stash theses flowers! They may be the reason they ended up there but thats all. Now for the story. When my late wife died I requested that people make a donation to Herritage Hospice in lieu of flowers. Well that didnt really work. When it came time for the viewing there were all sorts of beautiful flower arrangements. One particular one was this huge pot of Mums that my good friend Bob had sent. Im standing there by my wifes casket greeting people and sharing touching moment after touching moment. This is one of those things you remember doing but after its done you dont really remember much about it or even who was or wasnt there. I stood their for almost 4 hours and only remember speaking to a couple of people. One though I will never forget. Her name was Sonya, she is the grand daughter of Mama Jean. Mama Jean was the lady that set with Kimberly while I was at work the last 2 years. Sonya was 9 at the time. She comes walking down the aisle waiting her turn to share a moment with me. When her turn comes she hands me a little vase with these little purple flowers in it. I didnt have any money so I picked these from the woods. I was touched. I moved the big beautiful pot of mums and put this vase where they had been. The next day after the funeral, Sonya came to me crying and ask if she could tell me something? I said of course. She took my hand and pulled me away from everyone else. I dabbed her eyes with my handkerchief and bent down to give her a hug. While I was hugging her she said, You made me feel so special when you put my little flowers where that big pot of flowers had been. I keep that vase of flowers and let them dry. They lasted a long time that way, but I guess they finally fell of the stems behind my desk and became forgotten. Until today that is. Even though they were lying on the floor amongst dust bunnies they were still purple and one last time caused tears to come to my eyes......TFOF
