Hillbilly Post... Sunday.. Oh what a beautiful day.. Cats vs Michigan later today. Amazing how little smack talk Ive heard about this matchup... Observation from the Hillbilly Institute of Higher Thinking. Scientist have revealed that the melt rate of Antarctica is 77% higher than they originally thought in 2006. They have surmised that the ocean level will now rise 23 feet in the next 100 years if this continues. Now my loyal readers I want you to consider a few thoughts from a high school educated hillbilly that has never even seen a glacier. First I would like to point out that ice is made up of water. Next I would like to point out that water is the only thing that I know of that expands when it gets freezing cold. Figured that out by filling an ice tray to the top with water and then freezing it. Wala the ice raised a notable amount above the top of the ice tray. Another funny thing about ice is it can actually evaporate without melting. If you decrease the humidity of the air around ice the ice will give up moisture to the dryer air. Somebody a lot smarter than me figured this out and applied this knowledge to refrigerator freezers. Before that you actually had to defrost your freezer. From 1986 to 2006 the same scientist said the ocean level increased .1mm a year. That totals about 3mm in 20 years. Thats about 1/8 of an inch. This is really more significant that you might think. This is 2014 and the scientist choose to report on their findings only up till 2006. The reason, since 2006 the Ocean level has actually decrease by 1/8 of an inch... Who in the right mind would want to report that in the last 28 years the ocean level has remained basically the same. The cost to learn all of this has been in the millions if not billions. They could have learned the same thing by observing the Rock of Gibraltar for next to nothing. Do have to give them credit for one thing though. They have finally started trying to take into the account the amount of water trapped in soil and man made lakes and canals. Now I just hope they figure out that we also store a lot of water in tanks and bottles.... Peace out
