Himalayas ... ... Mutilated Yet dazzling ... The left wing of this large Himalayan butterfly is substantially damaged ... yet whatever is left of it is stunningly beautiful ... This is called Common Peacock Butterfly ( Papilio polyctor ) In a way ... its condition symbolises that of Himalayas ... repository of great Natural Wealth and fantastic biodiversity ... being constantly abused and mutilated ... Much of it being in the danger of getting permanently lost ... if we are not careful ... As we sat under a Deodar Pine tree ... on an elevated patch near the road we were traveling ... these beauties gave a splendid display of their glory ... we delightfully watched and munched our lunch in the cool Himalayan summer-climes a gentle snow-touched breeze caressing us to make the experience truly surreal ... Simple in all its complexity ... ... Quintessential Innocent ... And this being a lifer to top it all ... _________________________ Common Peacock Butterfly ( Papilio polyctor ) Size nearly 130 mm Tisa-Tarela Road ( elevation 6000 ft ) Distt.
