Himesh Reshammiya: The Phoenix Rises Again By R.M. Vijayakar, Special to India-West Oct 01, 2013 Rate This clip Himesh Reshammiya. MUMBAI, India Every time he is written off, he storms back — to the top. This pattern in Himesh Reshammiya’s career has been steady ever since he decided to be an actor way back in 2006. After his acting career hit a roadblock, the composer-singer took a break, did some offbeat work like an international album and started a company that built a bank of hundreds of tunes. He also turned film producer (he had begun his career as a producer, composer and storywriter of television serials in 1995!). Very soon, in early 2011, he was invited by his mentor Salman Khan to score music for “Bodyguard,” replacing Pritam who had recorded one song (which was retained) for the film. The actor and Reshammiya had last worked together in 2005. Quickly, Reshammiya signed prestigious projects like Karisma Kapoor’s comeback film “Dangerous Ishhq” (one of his career-finest scores that went unsung), Akshay Kumar’s home productions “Khiladi 786” and “OMG – Oh My God!” and Ajay Devgn’s co-productions “Bol Bachchan” and “Son of Sardar.” After this, came another lull as Reshammiya was left with smaller films in 2013 (though the music was decent) — “Shortkut Romeo” and “Policegiri” that came and went without a whimper and killed even the excellent music in these days when the success of a film is needed for songs to make a mark. But one cannot keep a good talent down. And suddenly Reshammiya has his hands full of great assignments. His biggest grab in recent times is Sooraj R. Barjatya’s film, which is said to be tentatively titled “Bada Bhaiya” and is even said to have Khan in a dual role. The new film will go on floors in June 2014 and aims at a Diwali 2015 release. Barjatya and Khan have collaborated on two blockbusters — “Maine Pyar Kiya” and “Hum Aapke Hain Koun!” besides the average “Hum Saath Saath Hain,” all three of which had music by Raamlaxman. What’s more, Reshammiya will work in this film with frontline lyricist Irshad Kamil after last collaborating with him in “Ahista Ahista” in 2006. And yet another lyricist with whom he is likely to work for the first time is Gulzar who will, in all probability, once again write the script and lyrics in the remake of “Masoom” (1983) as he had done for the original. Reshammiya has bought the remake rights from original producers Devi Dutt and Chhaya Dutt and plans to cast Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film. The older film was inspired from Erich Segal’s book “Man, Woman and Child.” The remake will be directed by Bedobrata Pain, whose historical drama “Chittagong” in 2012 received lavish critical acclaim but not a widespread release. Reportedly, the Bachchan couple has agreed on principle after Irrfan Khan and Vidya Balan turned down the film because they felt that they could not better their respective idols Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, respectively. With Khan, Reshammiya has two more projects on hand — Sajid Nadiadwala’s debut directorial venture “Kick” as well as a film he and the actor will produce together. What’s more, another feather in Reshammiya’s cap is Sajid-Wajid aficionado Sajid Khan signing him for his new caper “Humshakals” in which Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor all feature in dual roles. Bipasha Basu heads the female cast. This is the composer’s first ever film with Saif. The producer is Vashu Bhagnani with whom Reshammiya has worked in films like “Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya,” “Vaada” and “Silsilaay.” Another ace up Reshammiya’s sleeve is a film directed by Prabhu Deva, another Sajid-Wajid admirer. Titled “Action Jackson,” the action comedy stars Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai. It is produced by Gordhan Tanwani, producer of Reshammiya’s first solo film “Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge” (2000), and who last worked with him in “Taarzan: The Wonder-Car” (2004). The newest film Reshammiya has grabbed is T-Series’ “Mere Apne,” directed by Umesh “OMG - Oh My God!” Shukla. Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishen Kumar, who produced “Humko Deewana Kar Gaye,” “Darling,” “Karzzzz,” “Kajraare” and “A New Love Ishtory,” (which has unofficially been seen on the internet),
