Hindi before 1947 was a sweet language and that can be testified by books published in Allahabad in that era. Todays Hindi s shrill, irritating filled with unnatural words, those coined from dead Sanskrit, Hindi has become a language with no rhythm and it is becoming difficult to understand it even on the TV or Radio. Language exists for making common man to understand the conveyed communication. Modern Hindi fails in keeping its vocabulary simple. For that reason all the dialogues and songs in Hindi films use Urdu lexicon. Crores of rupees have been spent in updating and promoting Hindi since 1947 Hindi even then has not come close to Urdu in conveying the human emotions. Hindi has very complex system of writings where half words are used to reflect subdued sounds. Hindi script is borrowed from Sanskrit and so most of its spellings and writing system is primitive. The only thing going for Hindi is its name. Hindi name is derived from Urdu, the language of the Hind. Hindi is connected with the word Hindu and Hindu religion and most Hindus from the North India consider Hindi as their mother language. Even if census is taken in Punjab today, where Punjabi is a mother tongue, most Hindus will opt for Hindi as their mother language. Somehow many Punjabi and Haryanvi and Dehlvis feel threatened to admit Punjabi as their mother tongue. This kind of attitude is prevalent in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Folk songs of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kulu and Chamba valleys are all in Punjabi and People speak Punjabi everyday in these States and places. The folk songs don’t speak lies like peoples. It is unthinkable for peoples trying to deny their mother language. But in India, people do. In the USA, where immigrants come from different countries and who speak English all their life, the doctors found that at the time of death these immigrants revert to their mother tongue. So, a German American who spoke English in whole life starts speaking German; their mother tongue at the time of death. In civilized countries, people can choose to teach any language to their children, if they like so. In the UK and the USA, Punjabi is taught as part of the educational curriculum. To make things worst, in India legislatives have tied the knowledge of Hindi to the job promotions. In reality most educated people prefer English.(MS)
