Hindi movies, by and large, have always been about the lead - TopicsExpress

Hindi movies, by and large, have always been about the lead actors, and sometimes once in a while, about the lead actresses. And if you leave aside the Rakas, the Gabbars, the Mogambos and the Shakaals, for a while, it is the HEROS only who get appreciated and recognised in a big way. It has always been that way. Even today it is the star power of a Shah Rukh khan and Salman Khan which draws the crowds. A DHOOM 3 runs because of the stardom of Aamir. KRISH 3 despite the superlative special effects it had would have found it very hard to recover even the costs had Hrithik not been there in it. Take YJHD. The presence of Ranbir Kapoor ensures a house full to start with. Ofcourse, we have the Lunch Box kind of experiments also which are able to grab eyeballs, but it is pretty much the magic of the HEROS which is used to rake in the big bucks. Hence, in this pursuit of STAR POWER, it sometimes happens that, some great performances from people other than the HEROS get overshadowed and do not get highlighted and recognised the way in which they should be. Some brilliant performances of these kind which come to my mind straightaway are : Om shiv Puri in Namak Haram. A K Hangal in Namak Haram and Deewar. Manohar Singh in Mai Azaad Hoon. Sabyasachi Mukherjee in Khakhee. Pankaj Kapoor in Dus. Nilu Phule in Saaransh. Atul Kulkarni in Satta.
