(( Hindustan Times )) news pepar Lt Col among 9 killed in Jammu terror attacks, Omar says death toll may rise An army officer was among the nine persons who were killed when militants attacked a police station in Kathua district and then struck at an army camp in neighbouring Samba town.Lt Col Bikram Jeet and two other army personnel were killed in the attack in Samba, said a defence spokesperson. Security forces are fighting the terrorists in Samba near the army camp.The terrorists first attacked the Hiranagar police station around 6.45am and then entered an army camp in the adjoining Samba district where an encounter is underway.The terrorists, between three and four in number, reached the national highway and boarded an auto-rickshaw," said Rajesh Kumar, inspector general (IG) of police, Jammu."They reached the nearby Hiranagar police station and opened fire indiscriminately, killing four police personnel."The terrorists then went back to the national highway and boarded a truck at gun point. They shot dead the conductor and reached an army camp in Samba district. They then shot dead the truck driver.The militants sneaked into the army camp but were spotted by the army personnel."The encounter is still going on and additional forces, including CPRF personnel, have been rushed to the army camp," the IG said.The terror attack comes three days ahead of a scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York on the sidelines of the UN general assembly meet.In 2002, terrorists had attacked Kaluchak army camp in the same area in Samba district and killed 31 people - three army personnel, 18 family members of army men and 10 civilians.
