His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich of Russia (Russian: Кирилл Владимирович; Kirill Vladimirovich Romanov) was born on 12th October1876 in Tsarskoye Selo and died on 12th October 1938 in Neuilly, was a member of the Russian Imperial Family. After the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the deaths of His Majesty Tsar Nicholas II. and his brother His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Michael, His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Cyril assumed the Headship of the Imperial Family of Russia and later the title Emperor and Autocrat of all the Russias. His father was His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, the third son of His Majesty Tsar Alexander II. and Her Imperial Highness Zarin Maria Alexandrovna (of Hesse). His wife was Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Marie (of Mecklenburg-Schwerin) (later known as Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna), the daughter of His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II. of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Her Royal Highness Princess Augusta Reuss-Köstritz. As a grandson in the male line to a Russian Tsar, he was titled Grand Duke, with the style Imperial Highness. After graduating from the Sea Cadet Corps and Nikolaev Naval Academy, on 1st January 1904, His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Cyril was promoted to Chief of Staff to the Russian Pacific Fleet in the Imperial Russian Navy. With the start of the Russo-Japanese War, he was assigned to serve as First Officer on the battleship Petropavlovsk, the ship was blown up by a Japanese mine at Port Arthur in April 1904. His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Cyril married his first cousin, Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha on 8th October 1905. Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Victorias father was His Royal Highness Prince Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the second eldest son of H.M. Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Victorias mother was Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia, a daughter of His Majesty Tsar Alexander II and His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Cyrils paternal aunt. His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Cyril and Her Imperial Highness Princess Victoria Melita had three children: Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Maria Kirillovna of Russia, born 2nd of February 1907 and died on 27th of October 1951. She married to HSH Fürst Friedrich Karl, 6th Prince of Leiningen - The His Royal Highness Prince Vladimir Karadjordjevic of Yugoslavia´s Grandparents on his mothers side. Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna of Russia was born on 9th May 1909 and died on 8th September 1967, who married His Imperial Highness Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia. His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich of Russia was born 30th August 1917 and died on 21th April 1992, who became the claimant to the title Emperor of Russia upon the death of his father.
