His Sister-In-Law Janis Smith lovingly wrote this for us all: Mike Obit In Loving Memory Of Michael James Smith April 16, 1964 – September 24, 2013 Michael James Smith died peacefully at Mt. Carmel East hospital in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, September 24. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in June, 2013. Michael was born to Charles Taylor Smith and Doris Laverne Smith on April 16, 1964, at Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. He grew up in Plain City, Ohio, and graduated from Jonathan Alder High School. Michael dedicated his life to serving others. He became a firefighter and a paramedic, and served his community at Jerome Township Fire Department, Station 210. He also served the nation as a reserve member of the United States Army 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles,” and was briefly deployed to assist with Army stability and support operations. Michael studied computer programming at Columbus Technical College, as was on a technical support team at Unisys in Columbus. Michael was also a devoted father. He is survived by his son, Jack Michael Smith of Corvallis, Oregon; his sister, Camille Morrison of Columbus, Ohio; his brother, Charles Taylor Smith II (wife, Janis); nieces and nephews: Lamar, Charles Luster, Carlissa, Carlitta, Charles, Jeannette, David and Gregory; as well as many other relatives and cherished friends, including Charles Morrison III and Susie Axtell, who provided love and support to Michael during the last months of his life.
