His original name was Shams-ud-Iltutmish He was born to Turkish parents of Ilbari tribe. He was sold by his brothers as a slave to Jamal-ud-din, and taken to Ghazni. Then he was again sold to Qutub-ud-din. He was trained as a soldier; there he learnt reading and writing. After the conquest of Gwalior, he was made as the incharge of the fort. Qutub-ud-din gave his daughter in marriage to him and made his as the governor of Badaun. He became king in 1211 A.D for more points visit learnourself/2014/03/iltumish.html
