Historically India has been keen to establish relations with - TopicsExpress

Historically India has been keen to establish relations with Pakistan on trade, commerce and people-to-people contacts whereas Pakistan has been predicating normalisation on settlement of Kashmir. Now the preference of each country has reversed. Pakistan wants unconditional progress on all issues but India is insisting on cross-border terrorism first. There are three reasons for reversal of attitudes: first, Pakistan is weakened by the spread of terrorism and militancy, now bordering on a civil war like situation; second, Pakistan has lost in credibility on account of misadventures in Kargil and Mumbai; third, India has gained confidence due to economic progress and normalisation of its relations with US. Pakistans previous attitude and Indias current attitude are not consistent with the long-term interests of both the countries. Nawaz Sharif is taking good initiatives to which India should respond in the same spirit in its own long-term interest. Please read on the article which prompted the above comments.
