History Lesson... Bucharest December 21st 1989 Four days before his execution Nicolae Ceausescu is giving his last speech. After three minutes several people (1:20) began jeering, booing and whistling at him—a reaction that would have been unthinkable for most of the previous quarter of a century of his rule. Ceaușescus facial expression (perhaps reflecting realisation) as the crowd began to boo and heckle him remains one of the defining moments of the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe.
