History is not going to be kind on HLATHI (Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe) when we allow the historians to reduce him to a nationalist. Some consciously do this with a deliberate intent to distort and destroy his indelible contribution in our history. Some unconsciously do this as a result of their failure to read and research. Their understanding of sobukwe is based on the quote of the argument that sobukwe made before the white racists when a need for the government of the people by the people arose. This quote came at a time when Sobukwe refused to guarantee the minority rights. He presented a counter argument that in azanai there shall be one race. Human race. No black and white nonsense. Sobukwe looked at the world with the lenses of george padmore in (PANAFRICANISM OR COMMUNISM - THE COMING STRUGGLE FOR AFRIKA). He understood what Web Dubois meant when he said the problems of the 21 century were the problems of the colour line. Benjamin Pogrund puts it before us that the conference of the anc that gave birth to the PAC was a violent conference. The violence emanated from the question of self determination. The Oliver Tambo faction adopted a nationalist agenda and the potlako leballo # Sobukwe adopted an africanism agenda. The friction or tension between these two competing forces introduced us to the real sobukwe. Ellias L. Ntloedibe defines sobukwe as an Africanist not a nationalist in his book - HERE IS A TREE. It is worth mentioning that there are similarities in black nationalism and pan-africanism but the differences are more than the similarities. These ideologies cannot be understood apart from the philosophy, politics and economics in which they are constructed. Black consciousness is as well similar to these two even though it lags behind on the economical issues. If this is a lie. Ask any blackconciousness leader about bikos economic policy. Sobukwe is known worldwide as an anti-communist and a pro-pan-africanism. The anc is famously known for its pro-communist freedom chatter. Biko is known as a champion for black pride and decolonising the black minds. His was more about confronting and collapsing the white supremacy. Bikos lives. White supremacy has multiplied under the anc. White people were not made ashamed for benefiting in the apartheid. A failure to make them ashamed is a failure to make them voluntarily surrender the land that was stolen from us. Their arrogance has multiplied. They refuse to give us back our land knowingly that the international white community will come and kill us under a false pretense of protection of minority rights. Codesa was nothing but an endorsement of white supremacy and protection of minority rights. Sobukwe must not be used as a mean to selfish ends.
