History of Reparations 3 John Conyers is a 1960s Civil Rights - TopicsExpress

History of Reparations 3 John Conyers is a 1960s Civil Rights Proponent to whom Rosa Parks served on his staff between 1965 and 1988. After, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination in 1968, Conyers introduced the first bill in Congress to make King’s birthday a national holiday. Yet, for all the things John Conyers is known to have done during his tenure in office, for African-ancestored Americans, it is perhaps his introduction of H.R. 40, the “Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act” in January of 1989, which interests us most. Conyers has re-introduced (anew) this bill each congressional term. “This bill calls for the creation of a commission to research the history of slavery and its effects on current America, resulting in recommendations on how to remedy this injustice.” Its current version was introduced and referred to committee, January 3rd 2013. For modern young people in America, it represents an America who touts Justice and Democracy as necessity the world over, but it won’t (itself) so much as STUDY the effects of Slavery from which all things modern stem. And, it’s not like the horror of Slavery’s ugly legacy is over for Black Folks in America…no! America is still fearful of “scary Black folks”, even as they are standing their ground (real or imagined) against us and murdering Black folks in the middle of streets in cold-blood racially biased-actions. Black folks are still disproportionately kept within Slavery conditions-an outgrowth of the sole legal way with which an African-ancestored American can be confined against their will—through incarceration. The descendants of Slaves are still victimized and murdered outright, like Tasmanians, Australians and Africans of yester-year. We cannot depend upon the U.S. to decide on its own to study reparations and if they do decide “to study” it will be an even longer process than the Tulsa Riot Commission. At this point We need to be submit a bill for services rendered, lost lands and pain and suffering to be exchanged for an economic remedy rooted in commerce. Chi Pisa le Chike!
