Hive mind, I need advice. Frankie, my daughters 91 Toyota Camry has been diagnosed with terminal internal transmission failure. We have looked into a rebuilt transmission for it, but the quote was 4500$ parts and labor, more than twice what she paid for the car in the first place. Our mechanic advises against putting a used transmission in, as it would still be 2k$ + and he cant find one with less than 180k+ miles already on it. (Frankie only has 151k and is very straight, body/engine/interior.) So... what do you do with a vehicle like that? Advertise on Craigslist in hopes of finding some on who has the opposite problem (good transmission/junker body)? Donate it for a tax write off? Sell it to a scrap yard? Please only answer if you have practical first-hand experience as my follow up question will be to get more details on how to do what you advise.
