Hmmm.... An interesting article but not fully convincing mainly because, as is often the case with psycho-anything, its a small pool of cases, a vested interest and there are no controls and no blind assessments. (If one goes to a psychotheapist its because one feels one has a problem and one feels it would be worthwhile paying for help with that problem.) Far more damaging emotionally for any individual to be left in struggling families with no resources and no prospects. However, there is a well-documented sense of entitlement and superiority that is engendered by an expensive - boarding or day - school. Its the because Im worth it syndrome. And a huge loss in that our leadership - political, educational, financial, legal, establishment in any sense - is chosen from such a tiny, elite minority. Best exam results? of course. Confisdence? Certainly. All the best that daddys fortune can buy. But there is a vast pool of possible talent wasted, lost to us all and we cannot, as Nation, afford that, surely? Can we really believe that our best people are those who just happened to have wealthy families to start with? (Going back to psychology - with controlled experiments, rather than psycho-anything - theres that factor where variable reassort and tend towards the mean in subsequent generations. So a brilliant mind might well have dimmer kids. Or vice versa. Not because of bad breeding but just natural genetic assortment.) Well never know that Nev from Dudley had leadership instinct, or Sadie from Redditch would be an amazing negotiator because they will never know it themselves, let alone have any chance to shine or do the good they could for the rest of us.
