Hmmmm....most of US are not being realistic when it comes to the issue of marriage. Yes, I agree we should love our husbands/ wives just as Christ loved us. (....for while we were yet sinners, HE LOVED US, even when we dont deserve it, he died for us) Christians are admonished to keep loving their spouses unconditionally even when their spouses are unlovable. If he beats you mercilessly everyday, they say pray,keep loving him and stay put...he will change. If hes shown nothing but wickedness, disrespect and hatred towards you, they say we must love him even when he does not deserve to be loved...JESUS DID and we can do. My question is...ARE WE GOD? Yes, we try to be like him, but the truth is WE CANT LOVE exactly LIKE GOD. They say that all we need in marriage is Gods kind of love...do you agree? I believe no one can love us like Jesus. No matter how much I claim to love you, I can never die for you because , I AM HUMAN, I am NOT GOD...although, we all pray and aspire to be like him. I have said this before, and I will repeat it now, if you are in an abusive marriage, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, dont listen to a pastor who says you should stay in a violent relationship. Your life is important to God. Dont be foolish, be wise. Yes, love and pray for him from a distance...dont die because you want to love your husband/ wife unconditionally like Jesus. From my little experience in marriage, It takes more than LOVE to stay married. It takes willing partners who values and love each other. It takes willingness, selflessness and commitment on both sides, it takes prayer,wisdom and dedication. Above all, it takes THE GRACE OF GOD.
