Hmmmm speechless Okoi Obono-obla We must say it as it. There is no embellishment whatsoever over the ugly incident that took place in Ugep last Saturday when Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa slapped Dr. Alex Egbona. I reported what exactly transpired. We must reject the attempt by paid agents who are now striving to twist the facts according to as they are paid. This is the problem with our country. When politicians misbehave they readily pay some people to begin to stand truth and logic on the head by trying to twist facts and defend what is obviously indefensible. It is axomatic that some of these so called political leaders in Yakurr are intolerate of alternative views. They carry on as if they are demi gods. They trampled on any body who nurses aspiration or ambition that they think is animical to their interest. The culture of impunity has unwittingly been institutionalised under this dispensation by some of these leaders. In 2008, Ubi Itam Ettah sent thugs to abduct Augustine Omini Iwara. They arrested Augustine (Hydro) and took him to Ubi Itam Ettahs father house. Hydro was held for several hours and brutalised and dehumanised. Hydros offence was that he disagreed with Ubi Itam Ettah. Before the abduction, brutalization and dehumanization of Hydro, Ubi Itam Ettah had sent thugs to break into Hydros home. The thugs maliciously destroyed the household properties of Hydro. I filed a case in the High Court, Ugep against Ubi Itam Ettah; Kingsley Okoi Possible and Bassey Ogbonna. Joyfully Judgment on the case shall be delivered on Friday the 8th Day of November, 2013 by Honourable Justice Effiom Eyo Ita. It is instructive that the Legal Counsel to Ubi Itam Ettah, Barrister K. U Ejukwa withdrew from the case midway over the failure of his client to pay his professional fees. So the case was not defended by Ubi Itam Ettah and two other defendants. In 2010, Martins Ubana, the Special Assistant to Ubi Iram Ettah attacked one Felix Uket with a sharp object and severed his hand. I instituted a case in the High Court, Ugep against Ubi Itam Ettah and Martins Ubana (Observer). I joined Ubi Itam Ettah because Martins Ubana was his agents. Under the Law of Tort, a master (Ubi Itam Ettah) is vacariously responsible for the acts of his agent (Martins Ubana). Judgment in this case shall also be delivered on Monday the 11th November 2013 by Honourable Justice Effiom Eyo Itam. Also in July 2013 one Ecilpes Ofem was abducted from his house in Egbuzium, Ugep and taken to the official residence of Ubi Itam Ettah where he was ordered to be beaten and tortured by Ubi Itam Ettah. Luckily he was released by a team of Police Officers led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ugep otherwise he would have been murdered. On the same day the senior brother of Eciples Ofem, Marshall Ofem was attacked by thugs at the instructions of Ubi Itam Ettah and Martins Ubana. An axe was used to severe his arm. I understand that Governor Imoke made a handsome donation towards the treatment and rehabilitation of this hapless young man. Also in early 2010 the business premises of one Okoi Apollo located adjacent the Ugep Police Station was razed to the grounds by thugs alleged to have been recruited by Ubi Itam Ettah. All these acts of violence were perpetrated by those who are politically very close to Hon. Bassey Ewa. I have never heard him condemn violence and brigandage that were perpetrated by Ubi Itam Ettah and his thugs against innocent citizens of Yakurr. I documented the massive violations of human rights in Ekori from 1999 to date against those that are politically adverse to Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa. I remember the orgy of violence that broke out during the PDP Primary Election to nominate the candidate of the Party for election concerning Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in January 2011! What I am saying is that the incident that took place on Saturday in Ugep when Hon. Bassey Ewa slapped Dr. Alex Egbona is not surprising to discern observers of the trend of politicians using violence and impunity to oppress and suppress their perceived political detractors and imaginary enemies. I recall the arrest of Eno Ekapong Ofem by a team of Police Officers from Abuja at the instance of Hon. Eko Ewa in October 2012. Eno was flown to Abuja and detained for several days. He was released after I filed an action for the enforcement of fundamental human rights in the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja. Enos offence was that he quarrelled with Hon. Ewas brother in law. I wonder why people that we regard as leaders should not conduct themselves well. Discipline and self control is part and parcel of leadership. Leadership is not all about imposition of incompetent people on us through dubious elections and flaunting of ill gotten wealth. Leadership is living exemplary, being temperate in the face of provocation. Just now Like · Comment · Share · Edit
