Hobbs Public Service Announcement---For the black Bible literalists who scream dont judge Ray Rice, I ask you to consider the following questions: Did you judge in your mind George Zimmerman for shooting Trayvon Martin; Michael Dunn for killing Jordan Davis; the Staten Island officers for choking Eric Garner to death; Officer Darren Wilson for shooting Michael Brown; Do you judge when some whites call President Obama or his family racist names? If you made up your mind on any of these issues after weighing the evidence that you saw and/or read, and yet tell folks not to judge Rice, you are wrong. Dead wrong. Judgment in the criminal law sense comes in two forms with the first being judgment of the facts, which six or twelve citizens sitting on a jury do on a daily basis, and the second being a judgment by way of sentence, which is done by judges on a daily basis. As such, with the exception of a death penalty case where a jury recommends life or death, a juror can fully judge or determine what happened without condemning a person for what happened. I always believed that was what Jesus meant, too, which is that we are not to condemn our fellow man for a sinful act. But Jesus never said that we cannot recognize or judge what a sinful act is. As such, if folks in the general public want to judge Rice as being wrong for punching his wife in the head, as all rational folks should, such poses no problem Bible literalists. The problem would be if the general public led a lynching party to condemn Rice to death for his acts, as opposed to praying that he receives help.
