Hofstra Professor Bob Brinkmann ruminates about the possible closure of Nassau County Extension: "The budget cuts come at a time when Long Island is investing in local agricultural operations and trying to promote agricultural sustainability through the Long Island Economic Development Council. Millions of state dollars have gone toward this initiative by funding projects across Long Island. Local governments should step up and do their part. All of the important futurists are pointing toward urban and suburban agriculture as one of the most significant trends in our century. Right as we are moving in this direction, one of the leading players in one of the most important suburban regions of the world is losing funding to continue their work."
