Holda is a Germanic goddess of the domestic arts, Winter, Witches, and the underworld. She is spinner, stormbringer, ruler of the Wild Hunt, protector as well as thief of children’s souls. She punishes lazy women who neglect their chores and reward the diligent by helping them to complete their spinning when they become exhausted.Through history, worshipers of Holda would chant this prayer to her while spinning: Mother Holda, hands of power, Fingers quick as flax-blue flower, Make my thread spin fine and strong, Ever soft and ever long, With all the power borne in your song.
