Holiday Freedom, so Im going back to some of my old Nirvanas. - TopicsExpress

Holiday Freedom, so Im going back to some of my old Nirvanas. Fred Neil had a backup guitar player named Pete Duey. Pete was part of the Everybodys Talking at me days, then quit the circuit and went back to UVa Law School to get straight again. We met there and ran together off and on for decades, though Id be lying to say we were that straight in UVa Law School terms. We toked up on the University Law School front porch during the Nixon Days of Riots, were part of the anti-establishment, wanted to Tear Down the Walls. The FBI used to pass my apartment every night and flash their spotlight on my door just to let me know they were always there. Whatd I do? My first brush with the police state in its infancy. I took Pete to Colombia and Kenya and Uganda, places I knew well, pubs, bars, music venues, the Bogota underbelly. He flashed his Dept of Justice credentials at airports while I stood in the queue like a civilian at Immigration. Pete sang Fred Neil songs like a drunk in a midnight choir every time we settled into the sitting rooms. I never knew Fred Neil, but I knew hi s music. He is a terrific musician, composer, and has one of the best horns in musical history. Pete eventually married a Ugandan friend of mine who I introduced him to, Maggie Mama Africa, and they lived in the DC suburbs til Pete died of a rotten liver. Most musicians from back in the day knew Fred Neil was one of the special ones. Thanks, in memoriam, to Pete for introducing me to the music. Thanks to Fred for creating it.
