Holiday-Music-Nerd Observation #5 - Last year I posted a popular rant about the tune Oh Holy Night. I feel their should be a committee of great vocal pedagogy teachers (Ann Foster for instance) that should grant the license to sing this piece only to those who actually have the vocal chops to sing it well. It is rare that I have this opinion on other holiday songs, but - I found one. I like the Pretenders, but Chrissy Hynde has no business singing Have Yourself . . . The key so singing a jazz or pop ballad is the ability to hit a long note with straight tone, and color in the vibrato. If you dont have this skill, stick to faster tunes!
