Holiness is simply the great secret of life. It is this dynamic pursuit of the one who pursues us. Seeking the face that is too brilliant to behold. Searching for Him nonetheless because it is His face that is burned into the image of our souls. As a student in youth group in the early 90s I remember being challenged by our leader to love others the way that we loved ourselves. I responded honestly that I did not love myself, and then I felt immediately devastated. I realized in that moment a fact about myself that I would not overcome for 20 years. There was no way I had received the love of God. There was no way I could love anyone with that kind of love. I didnt understand it then, but I now see that my life was not pursuing a Holy God. Once it is understood that God would have came down to die for any single one of us, the understanding of His great love explodes. If God loved me that much, then I have worth. It is through His love for me that I begin to understand that I am worthy of love, I begin to love myself and Him in one single concept. He died for me. This makes me want to pursue His love. I want to know this God who loved me to such an unbelievable degree. I am captivated. I am overwhelmed. I am blown away. And this overflowing of emotion is manifested in how I relate and treat others. It is the love of God and my love of God that simply can not be held and it now changes my interaction with the world around me. God is holy. His active love that captured me, rescuing my fall, and freeing me to fly. Let me tell you about it. This is my God. He is holy. And I pursue Him.
