Holland Recovering from Fall Lee University student Austin Holland is recovering at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta after a fall earlier this month. Holland, a sophomore digital media studies major from Westminster, S.C., fell from a rooftop on Tuesday, April 15, while viewing the lunar eclipse. As a result, Holland broke several bones, including his vertebrae, injuring his spinal cord. He underwent a five-and-a-half hour surgery in Chattanooga to stabilize and repair what doctors could, but he is currently paralyzed from the waist down. Holland was later transported to the Shepherd Center, a hospital that specializes in treatment and rehabilitation for patients with spinal cord injuries. Holland’s family will be traveling often back and forth to Atlanta from their home in South Carolina. They will also be remodeling their home to accommodate Holland’s needs. This will include creating a new bedroom and accessible bathroom once he is stable enough to return home. Many people have asked how they can help. A “gofundme” webpage has been set up to raise funds to help with medical expenses, rehabilitation, physical therapy, the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, travel expenses, and remodeling of the Hollands home. Only the Holland family will have access to these funds. Holland’s sister Tiffany recently posted this status: “Please continue to pray for Austins body and mind as well as his family and friends. There are things we dont know, but there is one thing for sure, we serve a mighty God!” For more information or to contribute to the Holland fund please visit gofundme/8ey6jc.
