Hollywood Bar & Filmworks.....located at 247 S. Meridian St. The concept of dinner and a movie originated in Indianapolis on October 31, 1991, when opened. The facility was originally an abandoned 130 year old warehouse, that was converted to a three screen cinema, with terraced level seating, executive office chairs and a full bar and dinner menu, served to patrons in their seats. CEO Ted Bulthaup, was the first theatrical exhibitor to gain permission from each of the major film studios, to lease first run movies to a cinema facility with a liquor license. After the new Conseco Fieldhouse opened, parking became a problem and expensive on event nights like Pacer games, and Bulthaup lost many long time customers. All the regular customers and new ones, were complaining to Ted, that Conseco Fieldhouse charges too much money for them to park. Attempts to get parking concessions from the city failed, leading to the demise of Hollywood Bar & Filmworks. Through the years of operation, they had many guests like...Peter Falk, Sydney Pollack, Paul Reiser, Tippi Hedren, Jane Russell and Linda Blair. Also actors from Star Wars and Harry Potter. During one of the annual Wizard of Oz festivals, the surviving Munchkins attended. Bulthaup closed the doors on their 15th anniversary, October 31, 2006 and sold his Indianapolis home and moved his family to Chicago, where he owns a theater he opened there in 2003, and plans to add three more locations there. Footnote: Could not find a picture of the original name on the building, but I see that Taps and Dolls is there now, at least in part of it. Couldnt find the name of the 130 yr.old warehouse either...:-(
