Hollywood’s Weekend Report: The year was 1987 in the fall. From a town not too far away came visitors to the campus to see if they wanted to attend the school in the following year. He was the young cross country top runner with the unforgettable smile. He took lead in taking the running prospects around the campus to talk them into coming. As he walked them around answering questions, the topic turned to a campus party that was going on that night and those who wanted to go. The drink at the time was “Purple Passion”. Just a plastic two liter jug filled with grape juice and everclear. Fast forward to Oct of 2009. Facebook was new to this former cross country standout as he was talked into getting a facebook page 3 month earlier at a family reunion. As he looked through his new page he noticed a message that he received and began to read it. “I am looking for a Thomas “Hollywood” Rogers that attended Dakota Wesleyan University in the mid – late 80’s. If you are him would you mind responding back, if you are not him I am sorry and thank you for your time.” As he sat there “creeping” through this persons facebook page looking at their pictures the first thing that grabbed his attention was the very unforgettable smile this person possessed. And then he noticed their Birthdate….July 29, 1988. His mind begun to race top speed as he started counting backwards and landed on November 1987. He again looked at their pictures and that smile and then he knew……He just knew. A smile came across his now hard, stone face that he wore so often due to his Military Training Instructor job and he noticed that somehow sand had blown into his eyes and his body had begun the process of flushing his eyes out to prevent any damage. They started to write each other and arranged for a meeting in his home town of Aurora, Colorado over Christmas so they could meet and that this individual with the unforgettable smile could meet his family. He arrived at the airport to meet them and stood waiting in the luggage claim. Slightly nervous, a little excited and at the same time scared yet very happy. As the crown slowly parted, like the red sea, there they stood and in that split moment he knew that who he was looking at was without a doubt his child that he never knew about. So many times I have said that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. And this for sure is proof. For this former cross country/track stand out did not know of their child so that this child would be able to be raised by a very loving couple who at the time could not have children. Is it possible that he could have raised them if he would have known about them? Maybe, but how different all of the lives attached to this story would have turned out is mind blowing to say the least! But in the end, the path that God had for these two individuals came out right as rain. They are his first born and the first child of two very loving, outstanding people. So for this weekend I say to that young, smart, beautiful young lady who has that unforgettable smile from their biological Father and Grandmother… Happy Birthday! Who are they you ask? The young, running standout from Aurora, Colorado is I and that person who has my Mother’s and my unforgettable smile? One Ms Molly Hall-Martin, my first born that found me on that October day in 2009, wonderful big sister to my two boys, daughter to George and Sue, Graduate from the University of North Carolina and now Graduate again from the University of Oklahoma. Our paths where split in the beginning but have crossed again just as God had planned and I am so proud to call you my daughter. Happy Birthday! I love you Much Luv People! Now Dance!
