Holocaust Memorial Day is a special day for me. It reminds me of the terrible suffering my family went through concentration and extermination camps. My father was a teenager when he was taken to a extermination camp along with his two sisters and each baby. He was severely beaten, they broke his ribs and blew him one lung but even though he was bleeding, he was sent to hard labor. The night before he and his family were to enter the gas chambers, he was able to broke some of the wire fence and bolt through the sisters with their babies. Afterwards he too ran and crawled on his belly tens of kilometers in a forest until he reached a place of safety. He told us about the suffering in the extermination camp, But yet he never lost the hope and joy of life. The Nazis were able to torture him but did not succeed in one thing - to break his spirit. And so it was until his last days, a happy person who established a wonderful family.
