Holy Gospel. Thursday, June 12 First Book of Kings 18.1-2a, 41-46. Much later, in the third year, the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in these terms: Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the soil surface. And Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. Elijah said to Ahab, Go up to eat and drink, because the noise of the rain and perceived. Ahab went up to eat and drink, while Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel. There he fell to the ground, his face between his knees. And he said to his servant, Go up and look toward the sea. The rose, looked and said, Nothing. Elijah said Do it again seven times. The seventh time the servant said, It rises from the sea a cloud, small as the palm of a hand. Elijah said, Go and tell Ahab, Hitch cart and low, that the rain stop you. The sky darkened by increasing clouds and wind, and it started raining heavily. Ahab mounted his chariot and went to Jezreel. The hand of the Lord was on Elijah; He tied the belt and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. Psalm 65 (64) ,10.11.12-13. You visit the earth fertile bundles and satisfy the desire of wealth; God channels overflow water and so you prepare your wheat: Watering the furrows of the earth, you match your lumps; soft with showers bless you and your buds. You crown the year with your bounty, your way and exudes plenty; the pastures of the wilderness overflow and the hills are clothed with gladness. Matthew 5:20-26. Jesus said to his disciples: I assure you that if justice of you does not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. You have heard that the ancients were told, not kill, and whoever kills you, it must be brought before the court. But I tell you that whoever is angry with his brother, deserves to be condemned by a court. And whoever insults him, deserves to be punished by the Sanhedrin. And the one who curses deserves Gehenna of fire. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar, you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift before the altar, go and be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer your gift. Try to reach an agreement quickly with your accuser while you are going with him, lest your adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be thrown into prison. I assure you I do not get out until you have paid the last penny. Commentary of the Gospel Benedict XVI, Pope of 2005-2013 29/05/2005 Homily (trans. © copyright Libreria Editrice Vaticana) Go first and be reconciled with your brother The Christ found in the Sacrament is the same here ... in Europe and America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. The one and the same Christ is present in the Eucharistic bread of all places on earth. This means we can only find it along with everyone else. We can only receive it in the drive. Is not that what you told us ... the Apostle Paul? ... The bread is one, and so we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one bread (1 Cor 10, 17). The implication is clear: we can not communicate with the Lord if we do not agree with us. If we want to present to him, we must also be on our way to go to meet each other. Therefore, it is necessary to learn the great lesson of forgiveness not let creep into the heart moth resentment but open our hearts to the magnanimity of listening to others, open your heart to understanding, to the possible acceptance of and apologized to the generous offer of their own. The Eucharist is a sacrament, let us repeat unit. But unfortunately, Christians are divided precisely in the sacrament of unity. Therefore, sustained by the Eucharist, we should feel encouraged to strive with all our strength to the full unity for which Christ hoped in the Cenacle. (Jn 17.21 s).
