Holy NIGHT! What a week! I DO love me some Oregon, but in the midst of my revelry in the great coastal towns, I managed to lose my tablet as well as my phone, so I entered into this strange no media zone. When I went in to get another phone, I made the brilliant mistake of striding into the AT&T store on THE DAY of the new iPhone release. When the salesman asked what color of iPhone I wanted, and I told him I would just like the cheapest gophone available, since my last phone had been lost/stolen. He stared at me, mouth agape, and demanded, Do you KNOW what day you came in on? I laughed and sheepishly said yes and then politely asked again for the oldest, most not-cool phone they had, particularly if it had a rotary dial. Im still struggling with technology. Im not quite to the level of owning a jitterbug phone (is that what theyre called? The ones with ginormous buttons and a simple yes and no button?) but Im truly pathetic when it comes to gadgetry. Heres the truth. Im terrified of myself. Absolutely terrified. I imagine this version of me frantically trying to answer emails, research festivals and events, manage social media, and any work related thing possible at ALL HOURS of the day. Im worried that I would be trying to cook dinner and do things on my smart phone. Im worried that I would sit at the park and work instead of watching my kids have fun. Im worried that I would be at dinner doing work instead of talking to my husband. I already work embarrassingly long hours trying to manage this company, and I already struggle with managing priorities. How do you guys manage your time and have self control when you essentially have the world at your fingertips with your phones? I know that Im literally the last person on the planet to NOT have a smart phone, so I know that Ill be assimilated soon....how can I have access to work, but not work? I need some support here. In the meanwhile, I will go back to my phone that would get me kicked out of the popular kid table in a heartbeat.
