A lady named Gypsy had the idea to have some sort of ride in all 50 states showing support for our Armed Forces and their families. We had the ride here in NM 2010, 2011 and 2012 but due to unforeseen circumstances was canceled in 2013. We are bringing it back in 2014 but will be changing the dates to July 25-27, 2014. Run for the Wall comes thru Gallup on the same weekend hence the reason for changing the date. Not only are we riding in support of our Armed Forces but also raising funds for Operation Wounded Warrior and Veterans helping Veterans. So plan on joining to ride across NM to show support for our Armed Forces and their families! The ride is approx. 400 miles and starts in Glenrio NM at the Glenrio Vistors Center and ride thru Tucumcari, Santa Rosa, Moriarty, Grants and Gallup enroute to the Arizona Stateline then back to Gallup for a reception/dinner. We are joining forces with the Rt. 66 Gurley Motors Car Show and Cruise. Some of the hot rodders will be driving with us as we come back into Gallup to the downtown plaza for food, music and more! Route 66 Freedom Ride Flight & Cruise will feature Hot air Balloons from all over the southwest flying over Gallup and at through the scenic canyons of Red Rock Park. 66 balloons will be invited and colorful mass ascensions will take to the sky each morning at sunrise. Red rock Park has been described as a “balloonist’s paradise”. Ideal weather conditions generally allow hot air balloons to gently drift into each of the amazing red rock canyons and over monumental rock formations and spires. You’ll even occasionally see these gentle giants of the sky land softly on the cliffs and overhangs. Don’t forget your camera! On Saturday evening the balloon pilots will assemble their baskets and burners along Route 66 to welcome the motorcycles participating in cross-state Freedom Ride in a salute to our armed forces and veterans! The balloonists will create a tunnel of fire for the bikers as they arrive at the Courthouse Square in Downtown Gallup.
