For the third year, Brazos Valley Worldfest starts off the festival with a Friday night Concert and Dance. This year we are hosting the LA ORQUESTA SALMERUM. Formed in 2001, La Orquesta Salmerum has been blazing trails on the salsa scene in Houston and around the state of Texas. They are the favorite band of the Houston salseros and have a loyal following outside the city as well. They are known for their authentic sound as they have a full percussion and horn section and no computer sequencing. The musicians are the best at their craft and are recognized nationally as Salmerum is often asked to accompany some of the biggest names in salsa when they come to Texas. The band is made up of world-class professional musicians who have played with such salsa artists as Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, Tito Rojas, Maelo Ruiz, Grupo Niche, El Gran Combo and La Sonora Ponceña, to name a few. Lead singers Jairo Perea and Ruben Esteva each have their own music productions with multiple hits heard around the world. This year they are celebrating their 10th Anniversary of making music together. Learn more about the band . ——————————————————————————- Free Salsa Lessons! Bring the entire family out to learn some of the steps to the dance that will bring the music of the concert alive. Attendees to the concert are encouraged to “Come on Down” to the concrete apron in front of the stage to dance during the concert. Salsa Fusion Latin Dance Company (SFLDC) at Texas A&M University is a dance organization created in 2008 promoting Latin culture and popular styles of dance through performances and classes. The founders, all coming from different backgrounds, chose the word ‘Fusion’ to emphasize the blending and inspiring talents of diverse people for one cause. One of Salsa Fusion’s main focus, besides entertaining, is to promote diversity at Texas A&M University and help the College Station community. This prestigious group of dancers has shown their talent at many university events including Ring Day, Fish Camp and student enhancing programs such as ExCEL and MEDALS. In the College Station community SFLDC performs live for the local community events like the Brazos Valley Worldfest and participates in volunteering projects such as the Big Event.
