Home »City GHMC cancels officials leave over rain threat TNN | Oct 12, 2013, 01.47AM IST HYDERABAD: With the Indian Meteorological Department predicting heavy rain during the next two to three days in the city, the GHMC sounded a high alert on Friday. GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu cancelled the leaves granted to officers of several departments such as engineering wing and asked them to not leave the headquarters. Addressing a press conference on Friday along with engineer-in-chief R Dhan Singh, Krishna Babu said the corporation ha geared to take adequate measures in case of heavy rain. He said an emergency operation centre (EOC) has been functioning 24x7 at the head office to coordinate with the staff during emergency operations. The commissioner said round-the-clock control rooms have been set up in all five zonal commissioner offices covering all 18 circles apart from one at central emergency centre to receive citizens complaints. Krishna Babu said 67 emergency teams consisting of 840 workers have been formed at engineering division level with men and equipped with material such as pumps for de-watering, tree cutters, nylon ropes, trucks, torch lights, JCBs and other vehicles. Six mobile teams at central emergency cell (Red Hills) and two mobile teams at south zone (Sardar Mahal) have been set up with equipment and manpower. He said alarm mechanism has been developed to indicate the level of emergency for the city. Alarm one would be triggered when the forecast is for spells of rain or wind speed up to 20 km per hour. The alert would be issued to all the additional commissioners, zonal commissioners and other officers of emergency operation centres. On receiving the warning, all the officers will take required measures. The arrangements have been made to issue alarms to the officers of all important line departments like Fire Services apart from GHMC officers, the commissioner said. He said 18 police stations in Hyderabad commissionerate and 12 police stations in Cyberabad limits have been provided with power saws, dragon lights, wire cutters and other tools from the GHMC funds and they are kept in their mobile cranes. The commissioner said all officers of emergency operations have been asked to be available in the field for effective coordination. Rehabilitation centres have also been identified by the revenue authorities.
