Home Improvements Went to the garage today to find something. Guess what I found? A complete home improvement project still in the bag from Home Depot. I love to go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy all the stuff for a home improvement project. Its just so great, and I feel like, when Im buying the stuff, that Im making progress. And I get it all and get a little extra. You know how it goes, I didnt even know they had one of those. This is going to make it easier. Theres this sort of euphoria of...its going to get painted, its going to get stained, its going to get fixed. I just love that feeling. Maybe youve felt it too. The feeling like Im actually making progress on this project just by buying all the stuff. Then I get home and I think, Im tired. So, I set the stuff down in the bag on the box in the garage, then go have lunch. Then I fall asleep in the chair. Then I decide to do something else. Then two years later, I find the home improvement project still sitting in the bag with the original receipt! Now I look at it and now I feel kinda guilty or something. But in the moment when I bought all that stuff, I felt I was making progress. You see, application makes all the difference. What use is a can of paint if the paint is still in the bucket two years later? The unpainted wood is still rotting and your house doesnt look any better. This weekend we are going to talk about the application of the simple life. Last week we talked about the importance of breathing inward by centering ourselves in who God is. We will never know Gods value and priorities for us if we dont slow down and be still long enough to listen and place ourselves in the infinite presence of God. Seeking first the kingdom of God is crucial for living a simpler life. But none of that makes a bit of difference if we dont apply what we gain to the living of our lives. Breathing out involves applying Gods love and peace to the patterns of our lives. Our outward life should reflect the peace and love we find within. So join me Sunday as we get down to the basics of living simply. The message, Seeking Outward Simplicity, is based on Matthew 6:19-24, 33. Dont live your life in a bag in the garage. Bring it to church Sunday for a little home improvement. Project Blessings, Jeff Howell PS: Many of you will receive (or may already have) a letter from us this week. Heres the complete version, with the step chart on the back. Be sure to check it out. origin.library.constantcontact/download/get/file/1110526623242-120/2013+yr+end+letter+-steps.pdf
