Home LyricsBiographyPurchase LYRICS Amhrán na bhFiann - The Irish National Anthem The chorus of Amhrán na bhFiann or in English, A Soldiers Song, (pron: ow-rawn nuh bee-yunn) is the national anthem of the Republic of Ireland. The lyrics were written by Peadar Kearney and, together with Patrick Heeny, set it to music. The song was first published in Irish Freedom in 1912 and quickly became the most popular of the Irish Volunteers marching songs. In 1926 Amhrán na bhFiann/ The Soldiers Song was adopted as the National Anthem of Ireland, replacing the unofficial God Save Ireland. SECOND VERSE: In valley green or towering crag Our fathers fought before us, And conquered neath the same old flag Thats floating oer us, Were children of a fighting race That never yet has known disgrace, And as we march the foe to face, Well chant a soldiers song. THIRD VERSE: Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale! The Long watched day is breaking; The serried ranks of Innisfail Shall set the tyrant quaking. Our camp fires now are burning low; See in the east a silvery glow, Out yonder waits the saxon foe, So chant a soldiers song.
