Home Secretary Reviews Progress of Udaan Scheme with Various Stakeholders Union Home Secretary Shri Anil Goswami today reviewed the progress of Udaan Scheme in a meeting with various stakeholders here today. The challenges faced by Udaan partners and steps to strengthen ties among key stakeholders were discussed in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion the Home Secretary appreciated the efforts put in by the corporate sector to make the scheme successful. He assured full cooperation and assistance from the centre for the smooth implementation of the scheme. Many Udaan partner, corporate representatives of the State Government of J&K and Vice Chancellors of Universities in J&K attended the meeting. Based on the recommendations of the Expert Group constituted by the Prime Minister under the chairmanship of Dr. C. Rangarajan, the Government of India launched the Scheme Special Industry Initiative for Jammu & Kashmir in the nature of partnership between the corporate sector and Ministry of Home Affairs. The scheme is being implemented by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The programme aims at providing the skill and enhances employability of unemployed youths of J&K who are graduate or in final year of graduation. The corporate in course of the implementation of the Scheme, encountered some difficulties such as duration of training, payment mechanism, rigidity in the apportionment of different components of training cost etc. The Committee of Secretaries deliberated on the issue. Based on the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries, CCEA approved proposal for modification in the scheme on January 24,2013 to make it more flexible and relevant. Accordingly, the order was issued on February 05, 2013. Guidelines of the Scheme as per revised norms have been formulated and issued. Total budget for the Scheme is Rs.1000 crore. Out of which MHA’s share is Rs.750 crore. Balance amount will be borne by Corporate. 37 leading corporates have partnered with NSDC under Udaan to train more than 57,000 youth from the State over the next 5 years covering Organized Retail, Banking, Financial Services, IT, ITES, Sports, Infrastructure, Oil and Gas, Telecommunications, Aeronautics, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Paramedics and Life Sciences sectors. Udaan partners include leading PSUs such as NTPC, BHEL, BSNL, ONGC, HAL and Canara Bank and private organizations such as Wipro, TCS, HCL technologies, Infosys, Bajaj Allianz, CMC, Cognizant , Yes Bank, Future learning, IL &FS, CII, Edusports, Religare, Accenture , Tata Motors etc. Corporate have not only restricted themselves to Jammu and Srinagar but have spread across all 22 districts of the State. The implementing agency, NSDC at present has hosted its website on ‘Udaan’. 24,628 youth have registered themselves on the website. 965 candidates are undergoing training. Training of 547 candidates have been completed. Out of them 221 have been offered job. The placement process is ongoing for the rest of the candidates.
