Home again. Off again tomorrow morning, but only for the day. - TopicsExpress

Home again. Off again tomorrow morning, but only for the day. Quite disappointed about the car. I left the 03 Volvo with my mechanic after consultation with my body shop right down the road. The deal was each would fix the part of the car that they specialize in and when I got home: Bingo! A sound motor in a sound body. But instead I find that the mechanic never told the body shop that the car was ready for them, and the body shop never thought to ask even though they knew when I would be gone. Perhaps work is so easy to come by that it wasnt worth it to call? The body shop wants days with the car, and I dont see any such time in the near future. My next cruise could be months away. Until then all my scrapes and dents remain. Otherwise Ive been playing catch up and I think Ive finally achieved it. See, I thought I was going to trial Monday morning. Right off the boat, fully refreshed and ready to defend the wrongly accused with vigor and intellectual rigor. But at the last minute the trial was continued to another date. Dont be fooled by the term continued. Its just one of many examples where words that look like they are perfectly normal everyday English words, when used in the law have quite different meanings. Only in the law can you continue something you never began. This points out the danger for the untrained user in attempting to figure out what the law is. Legal English is really a second language with a lot of cognates. This bit of discursiveness is a frolic and detour as we say in legalese. What I wanted to say was this: believing I had a trial, and knowing that trials trump all other court appearances, I thought my other appearances would be continued until later the month. But when the trial disappeared, the other appearances all reappeared and had to be dealt with. Hence the catch up. But Im not really unpacked yet. The suitcase is upstairs, true, but its sitting on the floor with most of its contents yet to be restored to their places in the house. This will continue for weeks, Im sure. Tomorrow I pick up my car, scrapes, dings, and all, and began to restore it to the system for the travelling lawyer that it was before I stripped it of contents to make it easier to work on. Travel may be broadening, but it is certainly disruptive. So is having a cold. Ive been sleeping long hours, and Im going to do it again right now. So good night friends. May the maintenance and repair of your outer body and your inner mechanics keep in sync as you go through life. Sleep well.
