Home birth to me was about feeling safe and calm in my own - TopicsExpress

Home birth to me was about feeling safe and calm in my own environment, knowing Josiah was playing down the hallway in his room, knowing that when I went into labour I wouldnt have to rush or worry about when I should leave for the hospital, not needing to have contractions in the car, not needing to wonder who would deliver my baby that day. It is about not needing to be concerned about fighting off unwanted interventions that so often occur in the hospitals around the world, not worrying about needless poking and prodding, not being distracted from doing what I needed to do- relax and let my body birth the baby God grew inside of me! It was amazing to have Ezekiel and rest in the water for 45 minutes with him in our arms asleep. He has been a very calm and happy child from his first moments, and we are so thankful for both of our boys. It was amazing to be able to go rest in my bed or lie on the couch, to eat whatever delicious food I wanted whenever I wanted. It was amazing to have both sets of our parents arrive within hours and spend a few days looking after us and helping with baby care and meals. It was all so relaxing and beautiful. Home birth to us was a healing experience after the sudden arrival we had with Josiah at 34 weeks, the whole NICU experience, the unnecessary interventions we had, the screw in his head to give constant monitoring that resulted in a scar. Cameron and I have no reservations about future water births at home- this is our choice, our experience, what home birth means to us. #homebirthawarenessweek
