Home from figure drawing at A-Space. Only one other artist... - TopicsExpress

Home from figure drawing at A-Space. Only one other artist... disappointing. I would hope for better compensation for our gracious model. Im beginning to see some improvement. A long term process... an adventure for me. I spend from 1 to 3 hours a day drawing... on line sources like Croquis Cafe, and working on anatomy, drawing bones. Beginning to pay off. There is so much to learn--so many parts to this. Learning anatomy and structure, judging proportions, foreshortening, modeling and shading.. and every different medium requires learning how to use them: pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink. Then, you have to get beyond the technical skills and realize how to develop your own style--the difference between mechanical reproduction and making art. If I were 20, going to art school, this would be no big deal. But is it possible to achieve the level of mastery I aspire to, past 70? Thats the question I pose to myself... and while I believe I can do this, I mean, Im not without training and some measure of talent, whatever that is, still... it represents for me a huge challenge, and shedding a lifetime of self-imposed depreciation of my abilities going back to childhood, thinking I would never be as good a draftsmen as my mother, or my uncle. Four months of serious, daily work... beginning to see some results. Very gratifying.
