Home truth from an Emir that means well for his people Emir Lambasts Kwara Government over deplorable roads ================ It was a day of rage and curses for the Kwara State Government today at Lafiagi, in Edu Loclal Government area of the state, as residents, including the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Kawu Haliru, lambasted the government for alleged neglect of the area. Alhaji Haliru made the assertions when the Kwara North Town Hall Meeting Committee of the All Progressive Congress paid him a courtesy visit in his palace. The monarch bemoaned the acute infrastructural decay in the area, urging the state government to embark on more infrastructural development in the area. “We were promised so many things during the elections that are yet to be done. The APC government has neglected our people. It will be immoral to come back to solicit for votes yet again from the.” “Our township roads are not too good and more in particular we need power substation here to ensure steady and stable electricity”, he said. He decried that it was only one road that leads to Lafiagi, urging government to rehabilitate existing roads and open up of many others in the area. E-kwara recalls that a similar lamentation greeted the Kwara South Committee Town Hall Committee of the party, when it visited Offa recently. In Offa, a known opposition stronghold, the people rose with one voice and criticized the government for its ‘incompetence and misgovernance’. A retired judge and Offa community leader, Justice Banji Orilonise, called on concerned authorities in the state to repair the township roads. The ODU chieftain, who is also a retired High Court Judge, identified some of the township roads to include Olofa Way, Offa Ikotun and Offa-Erin-Ile roads. He described Offa town as the next largest town in the state after Ilorin, saying that the ancient town should be accorded due recognition and attention. Meanwhile, the APC committee on Monday called on the people of the state to partake adequately in the forthcoming distribution of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC) and Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) set to commence on Friday. Alhaji Saidu Issa, the chairman of the Kwara North Town Hall Meeting Committee made the call while addressing the party loyalties and people of the Kwara North at Patigi and Lafiagi, the headquarters of the Patigi and Edu local government respectively. The APC leader explained that the move became necessary to alert the people on the need to perform in their civic responsibilities. The party chieftain urged people that had previously registered to come out to collect their PVC and those that had not to register during the Continuous Voter’s Registration exercise that would start in the state on Aug 18. Issa, who noted that the meeting was also to avail the team of the feedback on government programmes and projects in the area however, urged the people to be patient with government. “I want to assure you that this government will within the remaining very shortest period of time cover all possible projects on ground”, he said. Also speaking, Alhaji Ahman Patigi, a member representing Edu/Moro/Patigi federal constituency appealed his constituents to come out en mass for the exercise, assuring them that more dividends of democracy were awaiting them
