Homeland Defense Considerations The anti-gun lobbyists cite lowering crime rates as the logic for extreme gun-control. Their greatest success was laying the ground work for our government to buy up all available brass and led for bullets of every caliber of pistol, rifle and shotgun. Popular caliber ammo such as .410, 20, and 12 gauge for shotguns; and 22, 25, 38, 9M, 44, 45, 223, 30-30, 30-06 for rifled barrels are very difficult to find. On a recent trip out West, I could not purchase a single box of 22LR shells in TX, CO, or OK, though I searched in dozens of stores in various cities in all 3 states. Will this move lower crime? No! There are police chiefs in crime ridden cities like Detroit who forcefully assert that the best strategy against criminals is citizens who shoot back. Of course, this capability has been weakened by the purposed ammo famine. Howbeit, there is a much greater danger looming on America’s horizon that a plenteous bullet supply would help neutralize. The King of the Saudis has recently warned that he anticipates that the ISIS butchers of Syria and Iraq will attack Britain and the USA within 2 months. The social media websites of Islamic groups like ISIS are discussing using America’s porous southern border to infiltrate our homeland. There is innuendo that combatants are already in place to do so. What is to stop them! - Absolutely nothing. By the time our Congress holds hearings to investigate the viability of the threat, ISIS agents will be scattered throughout the US. They will be hidden, aided and abetted by Islamic terror cells that have been dormant for years. They will pursue recruitment of US citizens who believe they are entitled to more than our nation has given them. All of this presents horrifying images that all of us should pray won’t materialize. However, we are not defenseless. My father was a career Army officer whose specialty was battle logistics. Many of his troop maneuvers are in the study manuals of officer candidates to this day. I often heard my father make a remark that always resonated deeply within me. “America’s greatest deterrent against armed, boots on the ground invasion is not our missile defenses. What our enemies fear most, is a population of armed citizens. It would be impossible for invaders to successfully combat guerilla warfare from old and young. The unpredictability of a multiplicity of sneak attack platforms from innocent appearing locations could easily outmatch bands of invaders.” It is essential that all Christians pray that there will not be further encroachment on our 2nd Amendment rights. It could be that our founding fathers prophetically saw the right of every citizen to bear arms for such a time as this.
