Homer and the Beer Joints. Danville Daily news Friday, 5-16-1902, p 2 Homer Enterprise—It is rumored that the Sidell agent for a Terre Haute brewery was here Saturday and leased the same site used last year of J. D. Anderson for the purpose of opening another beer joint. As this is about the only plat of ground that could be leased for this purpose, so strongly opposed are our people to this damnable traffic, a repetition of last year has been feared and good citizens have often plead with the owner to induce him to refuse to rent his property for such a purpose and avoid trouble. Since the joint was routed last year he has refused one or two parties, but the offer this time seems to have changed his mind—if reports are true. Our people are strongly against these groggeries and if the joint comes there’s serious trouble in store for both the beer distributor and the owner of the ground upon which it locates. Good citizens are not asleep in this matter, and request that fair warning be given that their just rights will be demanded and protected at whatever cost. The promoters are understood to be the same parties in charge of the Fairmount and other joints elsewhere. Developments are awaited with supreme confidence as to final result to the interest of good citizenship.
