“Homophobia in Russia Is Taking a Kafkaesque Turn. LGBT organizations declared foreign agents in one fell swoop, gays being blacklisted by banks, employers, and landlords.” As Russian LGBT advocates do their best to stem and reverse this trend, here in the US we must counter the influence of anti-gay extremists like Scott Lively who have been working with politicians in Russia and Uganda to pursue this criminalization of LGBT rights advocacy. Lively claims Russia’s new anti-gay laws as one of his “proudest achievements,” following from his 2006-2007, 50-city tour through Russia and Eastern Europe.
