Homouring the life and scientific contributions of German astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler! He had an avid interest in astronomy from a young age, and though originally studying to be a theologian while at university, his superb mathematical skills earned him a reputation as a skillful astrologer. He defended the Copernican system of planetary motion, putting the planets around the sun. It was while working as an assistant to Tycho Brahe that he discovered that the orbits of the planets around the sun were not the perfect circles of the Copernican universem but rather that the orbits took an elliptical route arounf the solar disk. Keplers laws laid the foundation for Isaac Newtons theory of universal gravitation.
