Hon. Abdullahi I. Mahuta wrote: ‘NI MA NA YARDA!!!’ IS BECOMING A REALITY After more than three years of campaign and lobbying, yesterday I moved a motion on the floor of Katsina State House of Assembly on the need for all stakeholders in the educational sector especially the public servants to enroll their children into public schools. During the deliberation of the motion, the deputy Speaker recommended that the motion should be forwarded to the committee on Education for further consultation with all the relevant educational institutions in the state to look at the possibility of making the issue a reality in Katsina state. After many other positive contributions, the motion got a unanimous approval from all the members present. The committee on Education has fixed tomorrow, the 9th of January 2015, to start public hearing on the matter and invited many governmental and nongovernmental organizations to come and make submissions. Some of the institutions invited are; 1. Ministry of Education 2. Primary Education Board 3. Civil Service Commission 4. Local Government Service Commission 5. Nigerian Union of Teachers 6. Nigerian Labour Congress 7. NU|LGE 8. Coalition of Civil Society Organisations For those of you who might not have been following this campaign, the idea or the concept of ‘NI MA NA YARDA!!’ which simply means “I ALSO AGREE’, simply advocates that unless we make all public servants stakeholders in the education project by forcing them to enroll their children in those public schools, there is no way we can arrest and eventually reverse the shameful state of our public institutions and the decaying fabrics of our social cohesion for the much desired National development. This way, the public servants will have no choice, but to be committed to the success of our public schools if not for anything, at least, because the future of their own children will also be at stake. My thanks and prayers to all those who contributed to this movement, in whatever way, from inception to dat,e especially the ‘Synopsites’. _______ NIMA DAI NA YARDA!
